Like me, you may have been waiting for someone—your boss, family, or community—to give you the opportunity to lead. However, if you understand, as I did, that the only person who can "tap" you and put you in the game is yourself, you can avoid some frustration by taking action to make yourself seen and heard.

I realized that my communication skills were holding me back. No matter how intelligent you are, if your communication doesn’t reflect your intelligence, people will perceive you at that lower level. You can change this. For almost a decade, I have been continuously improving my leadership and communication skills, and I have begun to see the results I had hoped for. It is possible if you commit to being an effective communicator.
